Booking.com Confirmed My Room But the Hotel Had No Record. They Fixed It and Gave Me 50 Euros.

Booking.com sent me a confirmation for a hotel room in Rome. When I arrived, the hotel said they had no record of my reservation. I showed them the Booking.com confirmation. They still said no room. I was standing in the lobby at 10 PM with my luggage and nowhere to go.

I called Booking.com customer service. The agent said they would investigate. Twenty minutes later, they said it was a system error and the hotel was indeed overbooked. Booking.com said they would find me an alternative and cover the cost.

The replacement hotel was two stars. I had booked a four-star hotel. I asked for an upgrade. Booking.com found a four-star hotel five blocks away and paid for it. They also offered a 50 euro travel credit as compensation.

Booking.com's guarantee actually works. If they mess up your reservation, they will fix it. But you have to be firm about getting a comparable or better replacement. Do not let them downgrade you.

Always call Booking.com immediately when you arrive and the hotel does not have your room. Do not try to resolve with the hotel yourself. Let Booking.com handle it.
