Disney+ Raised Their Price Again. I Cancelled and Got a Prorated Refund.

Disney+ announced another price increase. My annual subscription was going from $109.99 to $139.99 at renewal. I decided to cancel. I logged into my account and found that cancelling was easy: one click. But I wanted a prorated refund for the five months remaining on my annual plan.

Disney+ does not automatically offer prorated refunds. You have to ask. I contacted customer support through their help page. The agent said that annual subscriptions are non-refundable. I pointed out that I was cancelling because of a price increase, which is a change in terms. The agent checked with a supervisor and approved a prorated refund of $45.

The refund appeared on my credit card within a week.

Most streaming services do not offer prorated refunds for early cancellation. But if you are cancelling because of a price increase, you have more leverage. The service changed the terms of your agreement. You are entitled to a refund for the unused portion.

This works with other streaming services too. I have done it with Hulu and Paramount+. Always ask. The worst they can say is no.
