eBay Money Back Guarantee: What They Don't Tell You
eBay promotes their Money Back Guarantee but there are limitations most people do not know about until they need it.
The 30-Day Clock Starts at Delivery
It starts from the delivery date, not purchase. If the item takes two weeks to arrive, your window shrinks. I almost missed a deadline this way.
Collectibles Excluded
Certain categories like coins and collectibles have different rules. I bought a vintage watch described as "working" that stopped after two days. eBay initially denied my claim because watches over a certain value are handled differently.
Returns Not Always Free
Sellers must provide a return label for items not as described. In practice some drag their feet. I had a seller send an expired label.
Shipping Damage Not Covered
If the item arrives damaged but was properly described, you must file with the shipping carrier, not eBay.
The 1-Day Escalation Rule
If the seller responds at all even just "I disagree" the case goes to a longer review. I had a case delayed two weeks because the seller replied with one word: "No."
eBay's guarantee is solid but has cracks. Knowing them helps you avoid falling through.
