Epic Games Refund: Better Than Steam? Here's My Experience.

Epic Games Store has a refund policy that is almost identical to Steam but with some key differences. I tested both and here is my verdict.

I bought a game called Echoes of War on the Epic Games Store for $39.99. I played for about an hour and realized it was not for me. I requested a refund through Epic's self-service portal.

The process was simple: log into your Epic account, go to Account > Purchases, find the game, and click Request Refund. The refund was approved within 24 hours. Money back to my PayPal within three business days.

Epic vs Steam: The Differences

Epic's policy: refunds available within 14 days of purchase with less than 2 hours of playtime. Same as Steam on the surface.

But here is where Epic differs. Epic's automated approval rate seems higher than Steam. My refund was approved without any human review. I have had Steam refunds that required manual approval even within the 2-hour window.

Another difference: Epic refunds go back to your original payment method by default. Steam defaults to wallet credit. You have to explicitly request otherwise with Steam.

The Catch

Epic does not have a robust manual review process like Steam. If you are outside the 2-hour window, getting a refund from Epic is harder than from Steam. I tested this with a game I had 3 hours of playtime on. Epic rejected it. Steam accepted a similar request.

Verdict

For refunds within policy: Epic is smoother and faster. For exceptions: Steam is more flexible. Choose your platform accordingly.
