The Gym Cancellation Email That Bypasses Their "In Person Only" Policy

Gyms require in-person cancellation because they know most people will not bother. I have cancelled 4 gym memberships via email despite "in-person only" policies. Here is the secret. Send an email stating that you are moving to an area without their locations. Most gyms have a relocation clause that allows email cancellation. If you send certified mail instead of email, they cannot claim they never received your cancellation. I also discovered that mentioning "I am willing to send this by certified mail if required" makes them drop the in-person requirement because they know certified mail costs them more to process. The key phrase is: "I am providing written notice of cancellation as required by my membership agreement. Please confirm receipt and provide written confirmation of my cancellation and any refund due."
