The Nintendo eShop Refund Trick That Actually Works
After getting a refund from Nintendo, I researched every trick to get past their ironclad no-refund policy. Here is what I found and tested.
The Unpurchased Game Loophole
If you buy a game on the eShop but never download it, some Nintendo support agents will process a one-time refund as a goodwill gesture. I tested this with a $19.99 indie game I bought accidentally. I explained I made a mistake and never downloaded it. The agent processed the refund.
The Technical Issue Route
If the game has bugs or crashes, your chances improve dramatically. Nintendo knows they can get in legal trouble for selling defective products. Document the bugs with screenshots or videos and reference consumer law.
The European Advantage
If you are in the EU, you have stronger consumer rights. EU law provides a 14-day cooling-off period for digital purchases under certain conditions. Nintendo has been forced to offer refunds in EU countries more frequently.
What Does NOT Work
Asking for a refund because you did not like the game will never work. Nintendo's policy is strict on buyers remorse. I tried this with a $39.99 game I hated. Rejected instantly.
One-Time Exception
Nintendo keeps track. They may give you a one-time exception as a goodwill gesture. But if you ask again, they will point to the previous exception and say no.
Use your one shot wisely. Only request a Nintendo refund if you have a strong case.
