Bank Dispute Email Template That Reversed a $1,200 Charge Same Day

When you need to dispute a charge with your bank, the email format matters. Here is the template that got my $1,200 back within hours.

Subject: Urgent - Unauthorized Transaction Dispute - Account #[Number]

Body: Dear [Bank Name] Fraud Department, I am writing to dispute a charge of $[Amount] posted on [Date] to [Merchant Name]. I did not authorize this transaction. I have not shared my card details with anyone. I have attempted to contact the merchant directly at [Phone/Email] but they have not responded. I request a temporary credit under Regulation E / Fair Credit Billing Act while you investigate. I have attached my statement showing the charge and proof of my attempt to contact the merchant.

Banks are required to investigate disputes under federal law. Mentioning Regulation E or the Fair Credit Billing Act signals that you know your rights. Most banks will issue a temporary credit immediately.
