Gym Membership Cancellation Email Template That Actually Works

Gyms make cancellation deliberately difficult. This email template has worked for me with two different gyms.

Subject: Immediate Membership Cancellation - Member #[Number]

Body: To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally cancel my membership effective immediately. My name is [Name], member ID [Number]. Please confirm in writing that my membership has been cancelled and that no further payments will be processed. I am sending this as a written cancellation request as required by my membership agreement. Please also confirm that any prepaid amounts will be refunded on a prorated basis. If I do not receive confirmation within 5 business days, I will place a stop payment with my bank and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

Most gyms require written cancellation. Sending a formal email with specific requests creates a paper trail. Following up with a read receipt request gives you proof they received it.
