Uber Charged Me a $150 Cleaning Fee for a Mess I Didn't Make. I Got It Reversed.

After a routine ride to work, I got a notification from Uber: a $150 cleaning fee had been charged to my account. The driver claimed I had vomited in the car. I had not even eaten breakfast yet and I was perfectly fine.

I immediately disputed the charge. Uber asked for evidence from the driver. The driver submitted photos of a mess in the back seat. The problem: the photos showed a different car interior than the one I rode in. The seat color and trim were different.

I pointed this out to Uber support. They reviewed the driver's photos against the car model registered to the driver. The photos did not match. Uber reversed the cleaning fee within two days.

False cleaning fee claims are a known scam by some Uber drivers. If you are falsely charged, ask to see the evidence. Compare the photos to the actual car you rode in. If they do not match, Uber will remove the charge.
