Verizon Charged Me a $350 Early Termination Fee. I Got It Waived.

I moved to an area where Verizon had terrible coverage. Dropped calls, no data, constant SOS mode. I had six months left on my contract. Verizon said I would have to pay a $350 early termination fee to cancel.

Under FCC rules, if your carrier cannot provide adequate service at your primary residence, you can cancel without penalty. I called Verizon and cited this rule. The first agent offered to reduce the fee to $175. I said no. I asked for a supervisor and cited the FCC rule again.

The supervisor reviewed my coverage complaints. I had call logs showing 15 dropped calls in my first month. He said he would escalate to the coverage department. A week later, Verizon confirmed that my address had coverage issues and waived the entire termination fee.

Verizon's coverage guarantee is real but they do not advertise it. You have to prove that coverage at your address is inadequate. Use a signal monitoring app to collect data before calling.

Most people pay the termination fee because they do not know their rights. If your carrier cannot provide the service you are paying for, you should not have to pay to leave.
